The first round of the Winter League got underway last weekend, once again kindly supported by Fitzpatrick`s Hyundai Garage, Tullamore. Runner up was Competition Secretary Andrew O`Neill (20) with 40 Pts. Dan Cunningham (9) lost out on overall second on countback, but had the consolation of claiming Div 1 with 40 Pts. Adrian Duffy (14) continued his fine season by taking Div 2 with 38 Pts. Rathangan`s John Kennedy (16) made the prizes for the third week in a row with his 39 Pts winning Div 3. A second prize headed to Ballinagar when Darren O`Meara took Div 4 with 38 Pts.
As we head into winter its time to recap on some of the Club Championships. The Golfer of the Year went to Adrian Duffy after a season of very consistent and much improved golf. The Roy O`Brien Trophy for Strokeplay GOY competitions went to Robert Hogan. The Shap Mangan Trophy for Stableford GOY went to Matt Curran. Derek Hannon won the Singles Matchplay overcoming the gallant challange of Ballycommon`s Joe Mann in the final. In the Fourball Matchplay it was the youthful pairing of Dan Cunningham & Niall Smyth who triumphed, edging out John Lowbridge & Martin Kelly.
Next weekend there is the second round of the Winter League. Plenty of time if you have not entered yet. There are eight rounds scheduled, four each side of Christmas.
