GOY Single Stableford
Sunday 14th August
There was a three way tie at the top of the leaderboard last Sunday in the Padraig Arthur, Quantity Surveying, sponsored competition. Clonbullogue`s Ambrose O`Brien (18) was the one who put in the best finish to secure his first outright victory with 41 pts. Missing out by the narrowest of margins was Denis Breen (19). Denis is a great supporter of the club, travelling all the way from Ballinteer most weekends. Second place would have made the long round trip worthwhile. Also just losing out on the countback system was Monasterevin`s Clive Kelly (14). Mount Lucas regular Anthony O`Grady (13) took 4th place with 40 pts.
The Tudenham Cup team advanced to the semi final with a 3 – 2 victory over Mount Temple. Two of the three home matches were won comfortably, but one lost meant that a match had to be secured at the away venue. Robert Hogan & Dan Cunningham proved they were up to the task, digging deep to take their game on the 17th against their fancied opponents and send the Pat Fay managed team through. Castle Barna have twice been beaten finalists in recent years in this competition, hopefully the golfing gods allow them to go one better this year.
Next weekends competition is a single stableford sponsored by John Connolly Autos. The event will incorporate the Club Championship (over 27 holes) for our lower handicappers and at the other end of the scale, the Stewart`s Cup, a new competition introduced by the Captain for those with a handicap of 19+.
