Last weekend’s fixture was the Lady Captain`s (Patricia Mahon) Prize to the men’s club. The Expert Electrical sponsored event was also a Shap Mangan Trophy. Darren Fox (14) was the runaway winner with a terrific score of 45 pts. Second place went to Polish native Artur Geszczak (11) with 40 pts, beating Mark Farrell (9) into third place on a countback. Nigel Molloy (16) finished in fourth place with 39 pts.
Thursdays Open was won by returning visitor David Brazil with 40 pts. On Saturday our Senior Cup team put up a brave showing at the qualifer in New Forest. Castle Barna don’t have sufficient numbers of low handicap players at present, but the team selected did the club proud, sharing their game 2.5 to 2.5 with Portarlington, only to lose out on the second play off hole.
Also on Saturday the Duggan Cup team run in this competition came to an end when they lost out to Mullingar 3.5 – 1.5. There was further bad news on Sunday when the Central Towns team went down 3 – 2 to Nenagh.
Next weekend we have the June Medal sponsored by Maloney Maintenance Services, while the following weekend the Guy Clothing Scratch Cups will be down for decision.
Best wishes to Lady Captain Patricia Mahon on her big day next Saturday.
