Sunday 8th January. Fitzpatrick’s Garage Winter League

The mild conditions and the post holiday resolutions attracted a large entry to Castle Barna last Sunday for the latest installment of the Winter League. Stephen Harte (14) shot an excellent 43pts to take first place. The committee have decided to discontinue the runner up prizes, now introducing 5 Category prizes instead, where entries are quite large. Cat 1 went to Mullingar`s Thomas Cleary (9) with 42pts. Clive Kelly (12) took the spoils in Cat 2 with 41pts. With just a fortnight left of his Captaincy, all were delighted to see Adrian Stewart (17) claim Cat 3, the ex Arsenal trainee shooting 39pts. It was a family affair for the final two prizes, Martin G. Kelly (20) took Cat 4 with 41pts, along with his ever improving grandson Adam (26) taking Cat 5 with 40pts. The Winter League continues with Round 5 next weekend.

Shane Butler (7) shot a tremendous 44pts to canter home in last weekend`s Turkey Shoot competition sponsored by OCM Security Services. His sub-par round say him finish a full 6 shots clear of the field. There was a log-jam to decide the next positions on the leaderboard with 5 players returning 38pts. After double double checking, the countbacks saw Brendan Hennessey (16) take runner up spot, with Eoghan O`Donoghue (24) claiming third, and the final turkey going to Seamus Feerey (15). For something different next weekend`s event will be a 3 club competition. Those of you not being dragged out shopping can choose any 3 clubs, and play will be off the white markers, which I`m assured will be well forward. 20th November. Single Stableford Competition Round – Winter League.

Sunday 20th November 2016
Single Stableford Competition Round – Winter League.
Sponsored by Fitzpatrick’s Hyundai Garage, Tullamore.

Frost and fog was the reason for a depleted entry for last Sunday`s competition. The hardy numbers who did take to the course at least got their weekly game, albeit on temporary greens. The elements did`nt effect Gerard Kenny (16) too badly, as he posted 39pts to take first position on countback. Runner up also on 39 pts was Ballycommon’s James Mahon (18). The in-coming Captain showing some good form of late.

Friday nights Glow in the Dark Golf proved to be very successful. After playing in bitterly cold conditions everyone was glad of the warm mould wine and buffet back in the clubhouse. The well attended evening saw the presentation of Club Championship prizes. Derek Hannon and Joe Mann collected their trophys for the Singles Matchplay. Dan Cunningham and Niall Smyth were the Fourball Matchplay winners. Dan was also celebrating his birthday, and has now been officially inducted into the senior ranks. Liam Lynch was presented with his prize for winning the inaugural 9 Hole Championship, sponsored by Walsh Kealy Accountants. Consistancy was the key to his win, Liam just missing one of the 23 rounds.
The fourth round of the Winter League is next weekend`s fixture.
