The Westmeath side went on to win outright with a 4 – 1 victory over Tullamore in the Final.

Catle Barna Mens Club Sunday 21st May

The May Medal was last weekends competition and the entrants faced challenging conditions with a strong wind and a few showers. It would take more than a bit of wind to knock Ollie Scally (18) off his stride. The big Ballycommon man handled the conditions best recording a fine 67 net to claim his first Medal event. With a big man in first place there was a little man in second. Veteran Pat Rogers (15) aided with his low ball flight shot a 68 net, but was left ruing a 6, 6 finish. Pat`s grandson Stephen Egan Jr (+1) made it a good day for the family, claimed the Gross award with 75. There was a three way tie for the remaining places on the leaderboard. Ken Fitzpatrick (14) shot a 70 net for third, edging out Camillus McAuley (15) to fourth and John Thornton (16) to fifth net. The Thursday Open was won by Nigel Molloy (14) with 37 points after another a three way countback. The Thursday 9 Hole Championship was won by Dan Cunningham (9) with 21 points again after a countback.

There was no joy for our Barton Shield team who were well off the pace in the qualifier in The Heritage last Saturday. The All Ireland Fourball team made their exit from the competition after losing 2 – 3 to a very strong Tullamore side. Noel Maguire/Ambrose O`Brien won their game at home, but the visitors secured a vital away point in the second match. In Tullamore the home side went 2 – 1 ahead in the first match, but Brendan Kiernan/Wes Daly performed exceptionally to square the contest by winning on the 16th. It was all down to the final game which Tullamore secured on the 17th despite the best efforts of Conor Corcoran/Dennis Meredith who recorded four birdies in a match of very high standard. Next weekend`s competition is a Single Stableford.

Our Seniors Open continues every Tuesday and our Open Stableford continues every Thursday, with the Walsh Kealy 9 Hole Championship each Thursday evening.
