Castle Barna Men’s Club – 25 June 2017

Open Week came to a close on Sunday. A busy programme began on Tuesday with a Seniors 3 Person Scramble, sponsored by Walsh Bros Super Store. Pat Rogers, Stephen Egan & New Forest`s David Dunne combined excellently to shoot 57.4 for a comfortable win. In second place were Noel Comerford, Noel Maughan & Kevin McNamee on 61.0. Wednesday`s competition was a Mixed Scotch Foresomes, sponsored by Kode & Guy Clothing. Bridie Fay & Thurles visitor Pat Kavanagh won with 70, a stroke ahead of Theresa Harnett & Micky Dunne. Thursday saw the O`Gradt Crane Hire Single Stableford. David Brazil continued his great form of late shooting 3 under to take victory on 42Pts. Alan Leech took runner up spot on a countback from Aidan Kenny Rogers, both scoring 37 Pts. Thursday evening`s Walsh Kealy Accountants 9 Hole Stroke event went to hard working committee member Brendan Hennessy on 32 net, with Dermot Murphy one behind in second place. Open Week concluded with a Fourball Betterball over the weekend, sponsored by John Connolly Autos. It was a keenly contested event with just one shot separating six pairs. After a long review of the cards it was David Malone & Camillus Donoghue who emerged victorious on 45Pts on countback. Remarkably Camillus had to complete the last four holes on his own, as David had to rush off to take his place in a Michael Moore Interclub match. Runners up were fourball specialists Robert Hogan & Ger Peyton. Third, edging out three other pairs on countback went to Ian Kavanagh & Brendan Scally on 44 Pts
Our Senior Cup team put in a fine performance in Birr over the weekend. On Saturday morning they defeated Esker Hills 4/1, and in the afternoon they overcame Portarlington 3/2 to qualify for Sunday`s semi final. Alas their journey came to an end when they went down 3.5/1.5 to a very strong Co. Meath side. Our Michael Moore team were up against Royal Curragh on Sunday. Despite their best effort we bowed out of the competition on a 3 – 4 scoreline. Best of luck to our Central Towns Team who are in quarter final action against multiple winners Nenagh next weekend.
Next weekend the Scratch Cups are up for grabs, sponsored by Galvin Menswear, Tullamore. Four titles are on the line for Senior, Junior, Intermediate & Minor. There should be a large entry, so get your name on the timesheet now. Visitors entry fee only €15. Online bookings available on www.castlebarna.ie, or by phoning the clubhouse at 05793 53384.
