Vice Captain`s Prize
Players had to contend with a continuous rain as they competed for James Mahon`s Vice Captain`s Prize last Sunday. The conditions had an effect on everyone`s scorecard, but at the end of the day it was Trevor Wright (14) who came out on top with 39 pts. The Rahugh man had won the free-sub competition back in March, so this win neatly book-ended a successful season. Runner up was Cappincur`s Jody Duffy (11) who was just one shot shy on 38 pts. Mark Farrell (8) was the Div 1 winner with a modest 34 pts after a countback. Div 2 went to local man Adrian Duffy (15) with 37 pts. Playing partners Gerard Kenny (16) & Seamus McGivney (20) marked each other closely all day. They both finished level on 36 pts, their efforts rewarded with the top spots in Div 3 & Div 4.
At the prize presentation that evening James Mahon introduced Dan Cunningham as his Vice Captain for 2017. We wish the shy, quiet, and unassuming Dan all the best in his new role.
On Saturday the Castle Barna Shield final was staged. Esker Hills took the title with a 7 hole victory over Co. Meath. At halfway all matches were close but the Esker men pulled away over the back 9 to add to their last triumph in 2011. It was great to see so many supporters present from each side.
The Walsh Kealy supported 9 Hole Championship concluded last Thursday. Liam Lynch won the first two rounds back in April and with consistent performances since then he was not to be caught. Seanie Geoghegan was second with Pat Fay third. This was the first staging of this competition and created a great deal of interest. It will continue next year with a few tweaks to the scoring system.
Next weekends competition is a Single Stroke sponsored by the Bridge House Hotel, this is the final GOY event of the season and final qualifier for the Roy O`Brien Trophy. On Saturday there is the Father &Son competition in a two ball scramble format. This year the event is being expanded to allow Grandfathers & Grandsons compete. The event is open to all, non handicap holders and non GUI also catered for. There will be competitions over both 18 & 9 holes. It is all intended to be a fun family event and tee time is from 1.00pm.
Our seniors open continues every Tuesday and our open Stableford continues every Thursday.
