Roy O’Brien GOY Monthly Medal Results
Scoring proved to be very difficult in the years final GOY Medal sponsored by the Bridge House Hotel. Even with preferred lies, the strong south westerly wind and occasional showers had an adverse effect on everyone’s cards. If the weather wasn’t bad enough there was a sting in the tail as competitors got their first opportunity to drive off the new 17th tee, a daunting drive for most as an extra 15 meters has been added. Thankfully it was downwind on Sunday. Battling through the elements best was Stephen Comerford (16) who returned 69 net to claim his first Medal competition. Stephen is a great supporter of club competitions and this win was fully deserved. Runner up was an in form player, Adrian Duffy (15) with 70 net. These were the only two scores under 70 on the day. 3rd net went to Sean Ryan (11) with 72, with Dominic Goodings (14) taking 4th net with 73. First gross went to Robert Hogan (4) with 77, finally getting one over on playing partner Derek Hannon (0) whose 81 was good enough for second gross. The tough conditions were reflected in the CSS being 74, a full 3 shots higher than normal.
Next Sunday competition is a Single Stroke sponsored by Tullamore Hardware, which incorporates the 1916 Centenary Grand Slam. Eligible players for the Grand Slam are the six main prize winners from the Captain’s Prize, the President’s Prize and the Vice Captain’s Prize, together with the first and second placed players in the six monthly medal competitions since April.
