Castle Barna Golf Club. Sunday 20th August.
The weather forecast may have affected Sunday`s entry, but the morning was fine with the expected rain not arriving until after lunchtime. The consistent showers from earlier in the week had the course playing longer than normal and this had an effect on scoring. Ray Hogan (19) claimed his first overall win after shooting 39pts. Runner up after a tie break was Stephen Comerford (14) on 38pts. The Div 1 prize went to Shay Egan (4) with 37pts on a better back nine. Div 2 went to Stephen Harte (14) on 35pts. Mark Kelly (16) continued his fine year in taking the Div 3 win with 38pts. Mark obviously benefiting from coaching tips from his grandson, Adam. Free of his lycra attire, Pat Fay (23) was able to claim the Div 4 prize with 36pts.
The All Ireland Juniors was held in Headford GC last week and there were very creditable performances from our two representatives. Cathal Ryan finished 7th overall in the U-13 section, with Adam Kelly 12th in the U-12`s. Both lads represented themselves and the club admirably, and we can look forward to their continued progress in the years ahead. Thanks to Junior Convenor, David Hughes, and his team for their efforts and time this year.
Next Sunday it`s the Presidents Prize. This will be decided over 27 holes, with those bettering a defined score continuing to play the additional nine to compete for the prizes.
Our Seniors Open continues every Tuesday and our Open Stableford continues every Thursday, with the Walsh Kealy 9 Hole Championship every Thursday evening. Bookings can be made at or by phoning the clubhouse on 057 9353384.
