Castle Barna Golf Club Sunday 11 June

Castle Barna hosted the regional qualifier of the GUI Junior Cup last weekend. In windy conditions the home side produced some great golf to top Saturday`s strokeplay qualifying with an impressive total of 310, eight shots clear of second place Tullamore. Confidence was high but matchplay can be a very different animal altogether, and Castle Barna were beaten 3 – 2 in Sunday mornings semi final by Mullingar after some very close matches that with a bit of luck could have gone our way. The Westmeath side went on to win outright with a 4 – 1 victory over Tullamore in the Final.
The weekend club competition was a V. Par. The winner was Nigel Molloy (15) with + 4. Second place went to Alan Graham (20) with + 3, with Derek Hannon (0) third on + 2. Results earlier in the week saw Ray Hogan (20) win the Monday Bank Holiday Open with 41 pts, while the Thursday Open went to visitor Damien Finlay (8) with 39 pts.
Next weekend`s competition is the Lady Captain`s Prize to the men, a GOY event for the Shap Mangan Trophy. Coming up is Open Week commencing on Tuesday 20th June. Full details of the various competitions are available on the Club website and Facebook page.
Our Seniors Open continues every Tuesday and our Open Stableford continues every Thursday, with the Walsh Kealy 9 Hole Championship each Thursday evening. Bookings can be made at www.castlebarna.ie or by phoning the clubhouse on 057 9353384.
