Castle Barna Golf Club Scratch Cup 03/07/16

Scratch Cups. CSS 71
3rd July 2016

The Scratch Cups, sponsored by Guy Clothing, were down for decision last weekend. There was a good entry seeking success in the four cups on offer, Senior, Junior, Intermediate & Minor. Over the years Derek Hannon (1) has tasted victory in the Intermediate and Junior Scratch Cups, but on Sunday he completed a unique hat trick in claiming his first Senior Cup by shooting a one over par 73. All that is missing in the collection is the Minor Cup, maybe when you turn 90 Derek ! Runner up in the Senior was Daingean`s Dan Shaughnessy (4) with 76. The Junior Cup was won by Shay Egan (5) with 75. This was Shay`s second time to claim this cup. Runner up was Highfield visitor Alan Duggan (7) with 78. The bulk of the entry competed in the Intermediate Cup and here Alan Leech (13) came out on top with 80, with Mullingar visitor Colm Murphy (10) in second place with 82 on countback. In the Minor Cup it was Rhode`s Dermot Murphy (20) who came out on top with 90, with Gerry Gorman (20) one shot behind in second.
Thursdays Open competition was won by Colm McGuinness (20) with a fine return of 41 pts.
On Sunday The All Ireland Fourball Team took on Greystones in the Leinster quarter final. With an away draw it was always going to be a tough task at this stage of the competition. Castle Barna did managed to win one game away but this was offset by losing one at home leaving the Wicklow club to advance on a 3 – 2 scoreline. It was a great journey for this team who provided some impressive performances to reach this stage of the competition.
Good luck to our Tudenham Cup team are up against near rivals New Forest next Sunday, with the Tyrrellspass club having home advantage.
Next weekend there is a GOY Stableford sponsored by J.D. Scanlon & Co. Solicitors. The following Sunday sees the first round of Adrian Stewart`s Captain`s Prize. Timesheet available from 9th July.
