Castle Barna Open Week

Open Week concluded over the weekend with an Open Fourball. Mullingar brothers Thomas & David Cleary combined very well to score an impressive 46pts to take victory in the John Connolly Autos sponsored event. Making it a Westmeath one two were Artur Geszczak & Larry Giles who shot 44pts to edge John Lowbridge & Martin Kelly into third place on countback.
Last Tuesday attracted a large entry for the Seniors 3 Ball Scramble sponsored by JD Scanlon & Co., Solicitors. Chris Smart, Angelo O`Connor & Pat Mitchell were the winners with 64.1, with Pat Rogers, Pat Kinnarney & Martin Murphy a close second with 64.5.
Thursdays Single Stableford sponsored by Property Team Mollin Estates, saw a first competitive win for Mark Gerard Kelly with 40pts. Later that evening the Nine Hole supported by OCM Security Services was won by Pat Fay with a once in a lifetime 25pts.
Friday had the O`Grady Crane Hire 2 Ball Champagne Scramble. Two of our lower handicappers, Michael Brereton & Derek Hannon teamed up to shoot a terrific 46pts to take a comfortable win. It was great to see a large attendance for the weeks prize giving on Sunday evening, well done to all. Thanks to all our sponsors for their valued and much appreciated support over Open Week.
The Duggan Cup team were out against Knightsbrook on Sunday evening. With only two games at home Castle Barna were up against it, especially when one home game was lost. Pat Rogers & Liam Lynch secured a home point winning on the 15th. Word from the Trim venue was promising with our team well up in two matches after 13. Dan Cunningham & John Kennedy duly won out on the 15th. Sean Ryan & Brian McCormack were 5up and cruising, but somehow let that lead evaporate and were in the end very fortunate to scrape home on the 18th.
