Sunday 2nd October
Stroke play puts the fear into many club golfers, but not Sean Doyle. After winning back to back medal events early in the season, Sean (15) claimed his third stroke play competition of the year with a superb return of 64 net. The Rathangan player was the last man on the course and denied long time clubhouse leader Michael Brereton (2) who shot a great two under par round for a 68 net.
The Gross prize went to Derek Hannon (0) with 74, with Shane Daly (5) showing a return to form to take second gross with 77. Countbacks were necessary to decide 3rd & 4th net. Seamus McGivney (20) edging out Sean Geoghegan (14) after both finished on 71. Our thanks to Tullamore Hardware for supporting this competition.
And now for something completely different, next weeks competition is a “No Alibis”. Basically No Alibis golf is where your handicap is converted into free shots (Mulligans) that can be used anywhere over the round. For example if you play off 18, you have 18 free shots to use. Hit a wayward drive, you can call a free shot and play it again. Now you have 17 free shots remaining. Free shots can be taken anywhere, from drives, off fairways or putting. Scoring will be a modified stableford system, where a bogey is worth one point, par two points, birdie 3 points etc. Full details will be available from the stewarts on duty. O`Grady Crane Hire are the sponsors of this novel competition, which promises to be a lot of fun.
