Men’s Counties Cup
The Counties Cup sponsored by Property Team Mollin Estates was down for decision last weekend. The format was a three man scramble and this helped Eoin O`Donoghue to taste success for the first time in Castle Barna when he partnered Pat Rogers and Stephen Egan Sr to victory for Offaly in the Counties Cup on a score of 58.9. Ray Hogan, Gerard Gorman & Mick Dunne representing Laois were runners up on 59.7.
On Sunday afternoon we had the Junior Captain’s Trophy, sponsored by “3”, Patrick Street, Tullamore. With high winds buffeting the players scoring was difficult. Adam Kelly coped best in the conditions to return 35pts to win the Junior Captain`s trophy. Eoin McGuinness was runner up with Ryan Maher completing the podium. For younger players there was a juvenile competition and here it was Shane Marsden who came out on top with James Kelly edging out Jack Gorry in a close battle for second. Well done to all the Junior’s who have made great progress over the summer under the guidance of David Hughes and his team. Junior competitions will continue on selected dates over the winter, keep an eye on the club’s facebook page for details.
Thursday 17th September sees the last event of the Walsh Kealy sponsored 9 Hole Championship. The top 3 positions seem secure but there will be a lot of players jockeying for positions to claim one of the top ten prizes on offer. A big entry is expected next weekend when James Mahon hosts his Vice-Captain’s Prize. This event will also be a stableford GOY qualifier for the Shap Mangan Trophy.
The Castle Barna Shield final takes place on Saturday. Esker Hills meet County Meath with the winning team being decided on overall holes won rather than straight matchplay.
Our seniors open continues every Tuesday and our open Stableford continues every Thursday. Bookings can be made at www.castlebarna.ie or by phoning the clubhouse on 057 9353384.
