Last weekends singles competition, sponsored by J.D. Scanlon & Co. Solicitors, produced a four way tie at the top of the leaderboard with all players scoring 38 points. Conditions were challenging with a blustery wind and intermittent showers. When cards were checked and double checked, it was Peter Harte (16) who was declared the winner by the narrowest of margins – on the back one. This was the Kilcormack man`s second success in a month, Castle Barna obviously suiting him since his transfer from Birr. Runner up was the Club Captain Adrian Stewart who will be pleased with a good performance before he gets ready for the next two weekends when he hosts his Captain`s Prize. Third place, losing out on the back nine was Mullingar veteran Paddy Casey, with fourth placed Nigel Molloy also being denied by a lesser finish.
Our Tudenham Cup team were up against New Forest on Sunday afternoon. All matches were close, but as the day progressed and the rain got heavier word came through that Castle Barna had secured a win at the Tyrrellspass venue. The two home pairings dug deep and eventually got the victories required, the last on the final hole. A long overdue win over a New Forest team.
